Dr. Colin Perrier, Ph.D., R.Psych.
Clinical Psychologist
If you're living with the effects of trauma — the hypervigilance, the disrupted sleep, the intrusive memories, the sense that you're not quite yourself anymore — you may have wondered whether things can actually get better. They can. That's the work I do every day.
I'm a registered clinical psychologist specializing in PTSD, complex trauma, and operational stress injuries. I work with veterans, CAF members, RCMP, first responders, and civilians whose lives have been shaped by traumatic experience of any kind. As mine has.
Trauma has touched my own life and my family's. I didn't come to this work purely from a textbook — I came to it because I understand, in a personal way, how much it takes to ask for help and how much is possible when you do.
I use treatments with the strongest evidence behind them — EMDR, CPT, Prolonged Exposure, CBT, and ACT — and I have training in Emotion-Focused Therapy for couples navigating the relational impact of trauma.
My approach is direct, sometimes blunt, and I swear too much. My sense of humour is quite dark. I’m from rural Newfoundland. If any of those are dealbreakers, my colleagues are excellent and available sooner.
My waitlist is currently approximately six months. If you need support sooner, I'd encourage you to explore our team — all of our clinicians share the same standard of evidence-based, trauma-focused care.
I founded Dr. C. K. Perrier & Associates in 2017 with my wife Heather, who manages the practice. I previously provided assessment and treatment services at the Operational Trauma and Stress Support Centre (OTSSC) at CFB Stadacona, the Ontario Correctional Institute, and the Canadian Mental Health Association. I have also served as Director of Research, Evaluation & Quality Improvement with the Canadian Mental Health Association (Simcoe County Branch) and as a Manager at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health's Law and Mental Health Program.
I hold a Ph.D. in Psychology from Brock University. My doctoral dissertation on the impact of PTSD on marital relationships received the Canadian Psychological Association's award for one of the best doctoral theses in psychology in Canada in 2010. I also received the Brock University Board of Trustees Spirit of Brock Medal at convocation that year. I have served as an Adjunct Professor, lectured in undergraduate psychology, and published peer-reviewed research in trauma, attachment, alcohol use, and positive psychology. I have also provided trauma training to police services, emergency responders, and addiction treatment providers across Canada.
Thank you for considering our clinic.
